Background

Shelley Catherine Clarke (クラーク シェリーキャサリン)

I first acquired an interest in the marine environment while growing up in the lobster fishing town of Winter Harbor, Maine, but an observer assignment aboard a Japanese mothership and a Luce Foundation fellowship took me to Japan and China where I have been based for the last 30 years.  My work focuses on shark assessment and management, quantification of illegal fishing, traceability and fisheries governance, and is driven by a desire to elucidate the effect of East Asian fisheries and markets on the world's oceans.  My aim is to contribute to a better understanding and dialogue on sustainable utilization of fisheries resources both regionally and globally.
